McCain Delivers Economic Speech. Sort Of.

After jaunting off to the Middle East/Europe on a little-noticed trip to bolster his foreign policy cred, John McCain is acceding to the political reality that all most voters want to hear about now is the economy. He delivered what was billed as a big-deal address on the economy — his first since the downturn — but if voters were looking for clues as to how he would specifically address the housing/credit crisis, they didn’t get many.
That’s because McCain himself admitted that he doesn’t have answers yet. The address was designed to assure supporters that he isn’t solely obsessed with Iraq, and that he’s actually paying attention to the economy. As pocketbook issues overtake pretty much everything else among voter concerns, his trip abroad last week couldn’t have been timed worse.
Speaking in Santa Ana, Calif., McCain acknowledged that the current fiscal crisis is leaving “many Americans feeling both concerned and angry.”
“The motivation and behaviors that caused the current crisis are not terribly complicated, even though the alphabet soup of financial crises are terribly complex,” McCain said, in what was a recurring theme of the address. Continue reading McCain Delivers Economic Speech. Sort Of….
